How do I best represent a very thick wall in Sefaira?
In Sefaira for SketchUp, we draw with single plane thin walls. We then apply the u value (inverse of R value) which provides the engine with what is needed for thermal analysis. There is no relationship between the depth or thickness of the wall geometry and the thermal properties in the analysis. Only thin walls will provide an accurate analysis.
So, how to I represent the daylight effects of a thick wall?
See the image below - (1) and (2) are examples where the glazing is recessed on the internal side e.g. a box window where you might sit inside the window reading. Here the wall is still a single plane but we have used shading to add a distance between where the glazing should be and the inside. This will produce different results to a glazing element inline/coplanar/flush with the wall element, particularly as the wall thickness exceeds 500mm.
(3) is an example where the glazing is recessed on the external side e.g. where there is an overhang or external window sill. Note that this would be different to brise soleil or fins by themselves but is the same way that the user would represent the combination of both horizontal and vertical external shading.
Note - do not use "Internal Walls" to represent the internal surface of external walls. This Sefaira element is for walls that are entirely internal i.e. between two internal spaces.
