Should a balcony be modeled as a floor or shading?

Should a balcony be modeled as a floor or shading? I am making an apartment building in sketchup and do not know if the balconies that are extending from the building should be labeled as a floor or shading.

    Hi Michelle,

I would suggest modelling balcony floors as shading planes.

The reason being, anything tagged as floor will be considered as part of the conditioned space, and therefore will have associated light power densities, occupancy, and plug load. Which may skew your results.

    Hope this helps.

I have an extruded thermal zone at second floor, where the floor bottom will exchange heat with outdoor environment, while the top surface of floor is exchanging heat with inside thermal zone.

I tagged the extruded part of floor to be the red facing up while the rest of floor area inside is red facing down, is it correct?
another question: The floor and roof tagging keep changing after I correct it many times? what shall i do?
